Intra-Faith Committee at ICLI

Better and Closer Interaction Within the Muslim Community


Develop and sustain a united Muslim community in Metropolitan New York and beyond by understanding and build bridges between the different sects within the American Muslim community.


Engage Muslims of the various sects in Islam by promoting the common values taught in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and bringing about close interactions among Muslims.


1. Identify the various sects, geographic and ethnic groups (Shia, Nation of Islam/Black Muslims, Hispanic Muslim Community, Sufism, Ismaelis/Agha Khan, Ahmadis, etc.)
2. Identify the unique strengths and needs of these groups
3. Establish and share resources to strengthen these ties by breaking stereotyping and build better understanding
4. Create one voice i.e. of the American Muslim in exposing and resolving issues for the better


1. Identify the leadership in these groups
2. Participate and invite participation in each others programs
3. Share and create resources to provide support where needed
